Moments of Dahlia

This just happened.

State College dahlias, holding out in the cold fall air. 

How hardy am I? 

I am not at all, and rely on my bath and fleece and down to get me through. 

I understand when my water bill goes up from too much bathing, and suddenly the charm of an old house becomes a bit less charming. 

Our drafty windows and cold floors make me wonder where summer has gone. 

The dahlias remind me.

The portions are very small in Philadelphia, so it's best to eat before you get there.

Also, wear good walking shoes because the sidewalks can be treacherous.

I'm Just Thinking About Things

Little gal is pretty much always happy unless she is not. Turning nine can be challenging, especially when your birthday is in the summer which means that you NEVER get to take cupcakes to school for your classmates. But why can't I take cupcakes to YMCA camp? Well, because your mother is only good at making cupcakes twelve at at time, and just can't fathom the idea of making over half a hundred of the things! So I promised to make some that she could take during the school year to pretend it was her birthday...which really is not that much better with thirty-nine kids in her class, but I am hoping that she is using kid math and not actual math! Time to get out the apron.

We Took A Trip To the Beach

...well, at least it's our local "beach"... 

where there is no surf but the water is still freezing. we looked closely and found a heart!

the water lilies were in bloom. there were lots of tiny fish making these mating circles in the water, at least that's what we think. we tried not to disturb them. 

 little gal was blissed out when she found a flower that someone had plucked already, just sitting on the rope that reigns in the swimmers. we came home sleepy and warm, happy with this day.

It's Friday, so time to find some virtual flowers! I just did a quick search for paper flowers and was of course amazed...

Some made by hand or maybe more commercially, but wow!
