My Bright Winter Morning

Gets the day started in a good way, when the sun is bright and morning is full of promise.

How few there are who have courage enough to own their faults, or resolution enough to mend them.                                                         - Benjamin Franklin

...so here I am, stating plainly that while I am having a hard time with the daily posting, I can also resolve to do more, or do better, or just to do. Ben tricked me into thinking that I was brave for admitting my shortcomings, but now I have to go ahead and do something about it as well?

8/365 Big Sky, Little Horse

This horse could have cared less what I was doing,
which made me nostalgic for the cows down the road from our house that will
run after you in a herd-formation.

On picture day the classroom was swelling with high expectations and lots of hair combing, at least twice to make sure. When it was her turn she moved slowly around the green screen until she was standing in front of the bright lights and the photographer, who looked like her teenaged brother in a tie that clipped on, but she would not have known that. She could feel the sweat in her underarms and on her nose, even though probably no one else could see it. The guy told her to stand with her left hand on her hip in an attempt to look casual for this year’s spring pictures, in which everyone would be looking painfully casual.

Even though I am never ready winter has come, without bells or whistles
but instead ice and a bit of snow and a glorious twelve degrees this morning,
which makes me jealous of the thirty degrees that Nacogdoches is all proud of.

Never be afraid to laugh at yourself, after all, you could be missing out on the joke of the century.

2/365

Dear Morning, thank you for the promise you hold for today.

I'm still working on this concept. It's only been two days, give me a break!

New Year's Day Hike

Our hike was cut short by rain, but L said, "can we come back tomorrow?"
which was further proof that once you get a kid in the woods, they get it. I recall many, many hikes with T and dogs that started with whining and ended with
"that was a great day."
I forget too, until I'm there.

Today we made meatballs, tiny shrimp, and onion dip with ruffles, and thought of Cherie.

One sentence a day, is that too much to ask of myself? I like the idea of those perpetual journals which allow one line for each day of the year, and since I do not have an actual one I decided to embark upon a virtual one. Come on, if I write it will you read it?
