Time is tight. Best to get moving.

"Death is a natural part of life. Rejoice for those around you who transform into the Force. Mourn them do not. Miss them do not. Attachment leads to jealousy. The shadow of greed that is. Train yourself to let go of everything you fear to lose." - Yoda

Don't Get Between This Kid and Ice Cream

We're working on a tradition of ice cream Fridays, which came to be because L was asking for it EVERY DAY on the way home from school or day camp. While this has been a good arrangement throughout the week because there is no assumption of ice cream and wonderfully few requests, Oh My Gosh don't mess with ice cream Friday! This is our number two favorite spot so far, nice and handmade by our local German Baptists.
For some reason we both look especially googly here!

I don't know why

I haven't really dated that much in October, 2011

I'm starting to get itchy, like it's time for an art show!
I know some people with lots and lots of walls...
Who do I know that has a itch too, but instead one to make,
and share,
and drink wine together?

Weekend, how I love you

Here it is, the road before us. Wide open, waiting to be chosen.
Are you going too?

just because.

I got stuck in trying to make a wonderful and celebratory birthday post but was unable to make one that was quite so, and so I ended up here. I like that a number of these pictures are just about playing. With the old 35 mm pictures there was the option of being a purist who without the ability to alter, tint, and transmogrify  had to depend on the image to be what it would be. Not so much of that these days!
This year more than any other I can remember with my now fading and aged brain, I have been struck with so many moments of beauty...in my world here and in those people that I have come across on the way.

I don't know why,

but I am super glad for the weekend. I am looking forward to a long hike with Paul G, hopefully not in a flood state, but everything is either uphill or downhill on the trail, so we should be good, right?

Girl, Newly Turned Eight, Rediscovers Her Childhood

How long has it been since I have gotten down in the dirt and made a mess? Thrown sand around so that it gets in my hair? It's not like I have anywhere to go or anything to do this week but hang out with L. and be happy.

We parked off of route 30 and made our way to the Appalachian Trail and meandered about. I had to remind about using our "woods" voices. We crossed the stream several times and didn't get wet. She decided that she really didn't need her purse.

I love this time when she is still very much a child who gathers up her skirts so that she can fill a fashioned pocket with sand, to sprinkle like fairy dust as she walks. At the same time she can manage to say, "I'm telling you mom, this is fairy (fair-wee) dust, literally (littoo-wee) fairy dust."

Tree Pose

As always an occasion to get together is welcome for most. It almost couldn't have been hotter but somehow sweating alongside others has a bit of a bonding effect. There was good food, a happy birthday, and friends for everyone including the kid.

I love how the event gives us purpose for a moment: the small conversations between, the someone who wants to dodge, messing with the tripod, and then the moment itself. And after, we are happy in our shared silly moment of delight.

You Are Not Going to Believe This

La la la, I take a walk into the yard. Tillie is at her post.

Very pleased to see the purple coneflower coming along,

In the abandoned firepit area, I make a silly joke to myself about
"I've fallen and I can't get up," but even I don't laugh.

The sun is setting,

I hear a rustle, rustle...

Can't believe that there is A WOODCHUCK IN A TREE!

Amazingly I am able to get a picture while he is frozen in the "if I don't move she can't see me pose," which is totally ineffective because he is
A WOODCHUCK IN A TREE!
